The Commercial Side of Film Production




I am excited to share that I will be taking over as host for the film production business podcast, Crossing the Axis.


This show was founded two years ago by Max Kaiser, a veteran in the video production business and the entrepreneur behind the film-tech startup, Pipeline. Max has decided to close down Pipeline and is taking a leave of absence from the film business.


For over 20 episodes, Max has generously shared his experience and business observations through engaging conversations with smart guests who provide meaningful information to their peers. The result has been a “must listen” podcast for film production business owners.


To hear the juicy details about Max’s departure, and my vision for evolving the show, I invite you to listen to his last episode of Crossing the Axis, called Passing the Mic.


In this transition episode, Max starts us off with an update on Pipeline and he shares some stories on the journey of building a film-tech startup, along with the pain (and relief) of accepting a $500,000 investment loss.

I believe there is a lot to be learned from Max's story, including what it felt like for him to be a client trying to build a product with vendors he didn’t fully understand.


I think oftentimes this is how clients that hire film production companies feel when they are making commercial campaigns (especially younger brands and managers). They don’t always know what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Simultaneously, they fear the process won’t lead them to their goals. Listening to Max tell his story is a valuable figurative experience in wearing the shoes of your clients.


You’ll also hear my origin story into the commercial-side of the film business, and why I think my experience and curiosity will provide listeners with the information necessary to run a sustainable film company. At least, that’s my goal.



I will be publishing a new episode on the first Thursday of every month. My first hosted episode is a client-side conversation where we uncover what does/doesn’t differentiate film companies, where budgets are going, and how to introduce yourself when looking for new business.
